NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible engineers to excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. NSBE is comprised of over 200 chapters in colleges nation wide.The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), with more than 29,000 members, is one of the largest student-governed organizations in the country. Founded in 1975, NSBE now boasts more than 394 college, pre-college, and technical professional/alumni chapters in the US and abroad. In 1979, NSBE grew from 5 chapters to about 88 officially charted chapters throughout the country. In 1982, the first headquarter site was established in Washington, DC.
