They added shield bars to the party list for Shadowbringers which was SO nice. I agree it'd be nice to also have it on the main health bar so it's easier for people to see they are shielded, especially solo, but the party list is a healer's best friend.
To be fair, Paladin lets you glam your shield invisible but then all your shield animations are just your arm, including things like "Shield Lob" and "Shield Bash".
