Basically you express interest, at least initially, into becoming a mind flayer. The emperor will give you the supreme tadpole but you can put it away in your inventory.I'm at the point where Laezel is wanting to free him by getting the hammer and in my mind it seems like something we'd do AFTER we don't need to worry about the mind flayers and elder brain and all that shit.
