Hey, new hobby welder looking for some advice on machine settings. I have a Vulcan protig 205 with their 150 amp torch. All of my practice has been on 3/32 or 1/8” aluminum. I have a project where I need to reinforce a jon boat with a 1/4” plate.

Jul 11, 2020 · The problem was found in either the software or hardware of the microprocessor. Mine does step a bit when the pedal is pumped fast, but I do get a soft start. This is a beta test machine mind you. Supposedly the arc start is 10 amps less than the 25 amps from the ProTig200. Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR".

After relocating to Colorado and not having access to a garage to tinker and weld stuff, I finally got into a place with a garage. The only problem is I'm currently limited to a 120 volt outlet. Long story short, after a lot of research, I ordered a ProTIG 205 and after a month of waiting, it finally arrived! My impressions so far is it's a pretty sweet machine.Full AC/DC Tig, foot pedal, pluses, lots of adjustments, and also stick. It's $690 plus tax so I think it's close to the pro tig 165, but it has more features and a better warranty. Also keep an eye on Craigslist - you can snag an older miller dial arc with high frequency start or an old school 330a/bp for 500-750.
