There are 8th notes beamed in groups of 3 or 2, entirely different thing, and a matter of breaking the beams to your likings by using the beams palette, or, if you want a consistent beaming in the score, change the default beaming for 6/8 time sig. When I isolate the triplet the inserted png show the complete triplet. It starts with a grace note combined with a 16th, then an eight and ends with a dotted eighth rest. It was OK on a previous version of MS. Opening the file from the previous version gives an "error" message also shown in a pic.

To make the 4 dotted 1/4 notes, make the measure have 4 1/4 rest, select the rests and press ctrl+3 to make the 4 triplets. You can then start at the beginning of the measure press 5. and then the 4 notes you want. You must have triplets to do this.
