My default settings in illustrator to avoid this are — snap to point on — smart guides on — measurements in mm (I primarily work for print) All other snaps turned off. Pixels as a measurement unit automatically snaps to pixels. I never snap to grid or glyph. I find these settings give me freedom when drawing and accuracy when lining up.
