A fire cape is needed to be sacrificed only once to unlock the fight kiln, after that you can have unlimited attempts at it. Kilns capes are better for raw style combat stats. Max just has the bonus of 3 skill capes/being a hybrid cape. Comp is better Stat wise tho.
