I thought the axe was higher DPS. Nope axe has lower DPS its not much but it is lower. On the other hand the axe has a higher max hit. Thinks some people just enjoy seeing the higher numbers when they hit. Back when axe was just released the concensus was that it was higher dps. Guess many people (including me) just aren't up to date yet.
